World Exclusive! What are Katee Sackhoff and James Van Der Beek doing in Joseph Kahn's Power/Rangers?

POWER /RANGERS on Vimeo

Joseph Kahn: "Deboot of the Power Rangers. My take on the FAN FILM. Not a pilot, not a series, not for profit, strictly for exhibition. This is a bootleg experiment not affiliated or endorsed by Saban Entertainment or Lionsgate nor is it selling any product. I claim no rights to any of the characters (don't send me any money, not kickstarted, this film is free). This is the NSFW version. An alternate safe version is on youtube.

Adi Shankar: "When I was a child I had two favorite TV shows the X-Men animated series and Power Rangers. I eventually came to the realization that high school kids weaponized to fight an intergalactic threat would turn those kids into some seriously disturbed adults."

Didn't watch the TV series, but as a teen I watched the 1995 Power Rangers movie in theatres couple of times. No idea how it holds up now.

I would love to see a R-rated Power Rangers movie, but after the commercial failure of Dredd there is no way Lionsgate is going to risk anything beyond PG-13 with this franchise.

That all depends as to who the target audience is. The show was always a kids show. So the movie could be for kids or targeted as a nostalgia thing for the young adults who watched this series as kids.

Saban targets Joseph Kahns Power Rangers film: Tell them to stop harassing me

It's been a trending topic on Twitter in the last 24 hours. Don't know the last time a fan film did that. It isn't necessarily hurting the brand but actually promoting it.

I would be ecstatic to generate the buzz this fan film is generating if I was Saban. It's an awesome fan film. I never really watched PR but if it was like this trailer I definitely would have. I know there is a film coming, and maybe the problem Saban has is that their film might/probably be different in tone than this short and they don't want people getting excited, only to be let down when the film comes out and doesn't live up to the short. I guess it's a matter of who they're targeting, the original generation of fans who are now grown up, or a new generation of fans that will gobble up toys and games and everything else with PR pasted on it.

Besides Katee Sackhoff and Dawson's Creek guy, were the other Power Rangers in this fan-film played by the original tv Power Rangers?

If there is a PR motion picture, I'd expect it to be exactly the same formula that every single season of Saban's Power Rangers has followed and never deviated from, and the motion picture as well. There would definitely not be any cursing, nudity, or seriously injured people. It's OK if monsters die as long as they burst into a lot of sparks as they do it. You'll never see a PR fire a weapon that doesn't shoot a laser beam. The success of the PR franchise for so long is because Saban knows exactly what they are doing and who they are directing their product towards, little kids. Don't be surprised if Saban doesn't start some legal actions to get this film removed, or at least any mention of it being associated with Power Rangers taken out.
