Nuff, I would use alot of dark and desaturated colors, but make the blood bright. Further, I would make Christ bright - often times means he looks white, which may invite crits... But I think artists that do this are not trying to make a political or racial statement about Christ. I think they are after contrast. Contrast is important. Without contrast we do not have...beauty.

Look closer. It pees standing up. Is it male or female? Or maybe both...an abomination.
