Weta at SDCC 2016

I know Weta doesn't receive a lot of love on these forums, which I think is a shame given how strong their presence is at SDCC time and time again.

Here is a summary of what's new and on display at SDCC (I've missed a few). Many of which are now available for order along with studio photos.

Thank you to Josh whom has taken most of these photos.

Lurtz at Amon Hen - 1:6

Boromir at Amon Hen - 1:6

Galadriel at Dol Goldur - 1:6

Saruman at Dol Guldur - 1:6

The Witch King at Dol Guldur - 1:6

BOFTA War Troll - (scale unknown)

Gimli at Helm's Deep - miniature

For me, Lurtz is the show stopper. It captures that moment perfectly.

I ordered him this morning when pre-orders opened up. His ES is 1000 and I'm positive will sell out before everything else on show. Typically, that takes a while (months) so if you're on the fence, you have time...probably.

I decided against the Boromir companion piece because I don't think it does anything to enhance the Lurtz statue. We all know what Lurtz is doing, it doesn't require any further context.

I will also order Gimli when pre-orders open. Weta fans at flameofudun have been clambering for this exact scene for a long time.

Thanks for sharing Enshinnoi.
I agree with you, this is one of the best production artist in the world.
Also their communication is very fast and helpful.
I never looked on this forum for weta, cause I didn't know there were fans outhere.
But next to my Starwars collection,I got a whole big wall with cabinets full of Weta hobbit and Lord of the rings.
I was very active with sharing pictures on sideshowcollectables, but I went over to Flame of Udun, and on the forum statuefreaks.nl
You will see me try to update all that I like about weta.

On this forum Marvel is the Big thing.
And Starwars, and that is also what I collect.

I ordered Lurtz too.
i saw that the set with limited numbers was sold out within 4 hours.
But I have the Borimir from Sideshow maquette.
Lurtz was only available always as bust or primium format.
There has been a concept art of lurtz before, but they turned that one in to an other uruk hai.

I ordered the ltd edt 'Bourtz' set as well, sold out in under an hour! It just means I get matching numbers for Boromir and Lurtz, but what an iconic pair up!
The War Troll is apparently slightly bigger than the original CT and recent Snow Troll so it really is a beast of a piece and a definite want from me.

Saw these statues at the Weta booth at SDCC as well. Beautiful pieces! Love the LOTR swords on display, too.

I sure wish Weta would do 1/4 pieces, I just don't collect the smaller pieces and there are plenty of gaps in the PF line Sideshow abandoned.

I hear ya. I love LOTR and the Hobbit, but I decided awhile back not to collect statues from these two franchises.

But, even still, I admired the gorgeous pieces they had displayed.
