pretty much. helps with keeping a piece cohesive.

on most of my jams, i have the penciler only pencil the figure and then later an inker will ink a group of them.

i've seen some good jams where the penciler, pencils and inks/marker his own work.

which approach is better?

I've just been Lucky Doug. Believe it or not Arthur Adams on Spidey was not my first choice. One of the few rejections I've ever had on a Jam piece. I'll give you the Initials. T.C

Carlito said it perfectly.

Keeps it all in perspective. I had one piece looking really good when I ran into an artist and made one charchter looking like the Juggernaut in the jam. Nice piece of artwork but made it look awful.

When it comes to asking an artist do the layout, what's an average price?

Doug,

I like your approach if you decide to ink it. I would prefer the artist just do it in pencils. Reasons being if one artist pencils super tight and another kinda loose and inker will fix that very easy.

Some artist will ink then do Copic while other will just do ink. it still looks nice but not quite cohesive.

By the way Carlito your Jim Cheung jam is great. That is one example where you don't need it layed out. Jim pretty much has a good vision on what needs to go where.

My buddy's Cheung Jam piece is like yours. It's an Invincible one but Jimmy layed out the whole thing.

it all depends on what you're looking for. The amount charchters etc etc. I would recommend for the layouts to be very loose. I've seen other where it's almost tight pencils and the other artist is just inking it. Not there true style in the inks.

for example my New Avengers jam layout was no more than 100. and the Jimmy Cheung Layout was like I think $300 but it included a penciled ghost rider.

Hey Mike,

Doesn't bother me at all. It's got everyone talking about jam pieces and this thread is a great idea so everyone can show off what they're working on already have done. I love seeing all the different things collectors have come up with.

I've got the villain piece I'm working on right now and one from the original Image Founders that I picked up at the art auction at NYCC a couple of years ago.
