Although I don't have any insider information, it may make sense that this made-to-order "purple shirt" edition will be succeeded by the "black shirt" retailer edition.

I can't see that they wouldn't release this to as big an audience as possible in some form or another...
I really doubt Frank is popular enough to have two versions, espeicially the difference being only a black or purple shirt.

I'd be very surprised if we see an alt version.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

My guess is that Frankenstein is not a Marvel property, so it can be sold outside of their Marvel contract agreement hence the Rocky's Vault distribution.

Doubt it. Randy tried something similar with Odin and got a slap in the wrist by Marvel for it.

So it's "made to order" (which would suggest it will be limited). But Rocky's Vault is going to purchase the entire run.

That could mean if 500 customers order, 500 (+ normal extras for AP, damage, etc) get made and purchased by Rocky's Vault.

Or that could mean if 500 customers purchase, maybe Rocky's Vault actually places an "order" for 1000 units, to sell the extra 500 themselves.

Seems like a strange way of doing things.

Randy stated they're taking this approach because they're unsure if it'll be produced before the current Marvel license expires. And he wants to release it under the current license, not to hold it up for the future license. So, I guess this means Rocky's Vault will be the sole retailer for this statue.
