Yeah his ending was ridiculous. I don't want to post any spoilers for those that have yet to watch the show but he wasn't supposed to die that way. That role belong to someone else based on the comic. Actor Scott Wilson didn't deserve to die that way. I met him at the comic con this past fall along with Seth G (he plays Priest Gabriel). Very nice guy.

Second thought I do miss Shane as well however I never had high expectations for him because we all knew he wasn't going to last long. Matter of fact Shane lasted longer than he was supposed to in the TV show. If the story was to duplicate the comic then he would have never gotten out of season 1 so seeing him in season 2 especially being part of the farmhouse story was a bonus and actor (Jon B) did an outstanding job.
I mention Merle because he (along with his brother Daryl) were created exclusively for the tv show. They could have last forever on the show if AMC allow it. No one knew when Merle was going to die and it's why everyone is wondering when Daryl will die.
I think the show kind of lost its identity along the road and its currently unbalance. What's mess up right now is that there are characters currently alive on the show that should have been killed off a long time ago and there are characters that were killed off in the show but never killed off in the comic. Too many role reversals. It's mess up I know.
