Oh man, so damn excited to get this!
The fact it's so heavily marketed by SWS is really the cherry on top.

I believe this picture is portraying the prototype on top and production piece on the bottom?

There's definitely a noticeable difference in quality between the two. But still looks good.

It does look like it. Esp if you look at the jaw from the top to the bottom there is more layering that look very natural. The bottom one looks like there is only one style. The bottom one also has a broken finger?

Seems like most of the discrepancies between the proto and the final product could be addressed by even an inexperienced customizer.

The hot highlights on the lower jaw can be restored by drybrushing with heavily diluted white/cream paint. That would also help soften the liver spots, which are better blended on the proto.

A wash with diluted pink/red can intensify the wrinkles under the neck.

None of these would be difficult as long as the paint is super diluted and you make sure there's very little on your brush (such small traces that it takes several strokes to see a difference). When you add color in tiny increments, you're less likely to go overboard.

Having that said, it may not be necessary when displayed in normal room light. I think the decline in quality is within the acceptable margins.

With a price tag that high why should anyone need to be making corrections?

I'm sure for the majority of collectors the final production piece will be more than satisfied based on these previews (I'm in this camp). But for the hardcore and more talented collectors who are capable with a paint brush and spray gun you'll be able to bring it to another level. Simply put there is no way that a factory worker mass producing these will put in that level of detail on the job. Wish it wasn't the case for a piece that costs $1500 but it is what it is.

But it doesn't really need corrections.

You can't expect a factory painting 700 samples to achieve 100% of what an artist who worked on the original Jurassic Park achieved on one model.

I don't think it's necessary, that's more for people who want to squeeze the extra 10% of potential out of this and it wouldn't even be difficult.

The factory job looks plenty good for the price, at least based on these photos.

Anyone pick up the other ECC JP collectibles? I picked up the mosquito trapped in amber as well. The base was what pushed me to preorder. It was fun seeing the depiction of dinosaur creation easter eggs. Wanted the bronze T-Rex skeleton as well but not with everything hitting all at once in Q4 2022.

I will be getting the T.rex as well as the bronze skeleton. Didn't care much for the other pieces, yet I am hopeful those will do well. I would love to see more JP releases from ECC in the near future.
