Peeling

Hi all.
I have just tried to airbrush a sculpt. But without much success.

The sculpt is in sculpey original. Primed with a medium quality Aerosol primer. This seems to stick well enough.

After some keying with either a grey scotchbrite or 800 grit paper ( depending on area). I have tried to apply both Games Workshop Citadel paints and Reeves artists acrylic (both thinned for airbrushing).

Initially, all looks great, but any attempt to mask painted areas result in the acrylics peeling, and trying to feather out the peeling with 1200 paper just make matters worse.

The paint appears to go on wet enough.

Any advise is great fully appreciated.

Cheers

Ryan.

You have to seal with Dullcote or equivalent before masking.

Generally speaking sculpey isn't the best medium to paint on, even if it's been primed because of how porous it is, plus it doesn't necessarily hold up well over time, it usually will dry and crack eventually.

Also what are you using to mask?

Also what primer? some primers are like tar and go on so thick they never seen to dry.

Like if you use rustoleum super thick primer, it will take days or weeks just to dry and longer to be able to sand it. And still wont ever sand like duplicator or krylong primers.
