Should Pro Wrestling Be Regulated Like Other Major Sports?

Here's an interesting read:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...t&lid=tab1pos2

This got me thinking. If the sport was strictly regulated to the point that anabolic steroids were banned, resulting in more average looking wreslters (imagine Lucha Libre ), would anyone care to watch it anymore?

But back to the question, should there be stiffer measures enforced on Pro Wrestling?

Yes, drug tests should be administered just like other sports. All of the other crap is just scripted soap opera junk so I don't see any need to regulate the entertainment aspect.

The fan in me says no and leave the things the way they are. But the right thing to do is to say yes and take a hard stand against illegal steroid use. I have to say though, I was always more interested in the wrestlers that were big and buff as opposed to being entertained by the smaller more technical wrestlers. So if banning the use of steroids means watching average looking guys in the ring, I would probably lose interest all together and forget about the "sport". Its all about charisma in the business and it was more than just mic skills, it is about how crazy and freaky these guys look. Too bad that was mostly achieved by taking steroids.

No. Unless all forms of entertainment, such as TV and movies, will also be drug tested.

I'm not sure. But I do think they should have some kind of off season. I know Vince will never do this though because the house shows are big money makers for him.

"...like other major sports"???

While I am strongly opposed to steroid abuse, I say let these idiots go overboard on the stuff. In fact, make it manadatory for so-called pro wrestlers to take steroids and similar substances. It's not like they have any true athletic records. The fans will just eat it up if all the characters look like that guy on "The Man Whose Arms Exploded". The tension and hostility both in and out of the ring will be at an all-time high, and the likelihood of injury and meltdown will just add more drama to what is essentially a soap opera for men.

Benoit's murder/suicide is a horrible thing, but it's ultimately just another spectacle in a deluxe freak show. All it will do is generate even more interest in pro wrestling.

Damn I'm in a cranky mood.

Sure, right after they start regulating the other non-sports like bowling and competitive checkers.
