Casting and Mold Making Question

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has a pressure pot
set-up to recommend . I was browsing online and it all
seems to be quite confusing for me .

Would an airbrush compressor be good enough for the
Pot? or would i have to get those monster ones .
My current place here is a little bigger than a
shoebox, and space is really an issue

Would there be a good company to buy the Pressure
pot from? DIY is no good or me as supplies are not
readily available here.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hey Mufizal,

Aaahh the pressure pot dilemma! I was considering this as well... but space and money is an issue for me as well... so I opted not to get one. Also, wasn't planning on doing a whole lot... just more for waste molds.

Anyhow, try the Compleat Sculptor. They are a great place and pretty much have everything. I think Sil Pak has their own version as well. That's the only 2 I can think up on the top of my head.

I looked for alternatives... and found a lot of useful information about Rotocasting. The one I found most useful was the tutorial done by Kdawg. Cheap and very effective ... never had any issues with airholes or bubbles. And barely any shrinkage when it came to wax (I use Ralph's TMS) and resin.

Hope this helps~

I was hunting around for Kdawgs tutorial but didnt find
any. Sorry for being lazy , but could you point me
in the right direction for the Tutorial please.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hey Mufizal,

Not a problem. Just for future reference, you can do an advanced search for the user name for all threads started by that username.

I've looked up a ton of tutorials on molding and casting... and found this tutorial by Kdawg to be the easiest, most effective, and cost effective!

Just one thing to note, some waxes don't work well with rotocasting. But I have not had any issues with casting in Ralph's wax and resin by this method.

Check the Clubhouse, there are lots of tutorials there as well.

$800? How big of a pressure pot are you looking for 10 gallon? I picked up a GREAT 5 gallon set up for 1/2 of that, and a 5 gallon will usually only run you about 200.00 or less if you catch it on a good sale.

Also, no you need something a little more powerful than an airbrush compressor, funny thing, airbrush compressors are WAY more expensive then a regular shop compressor which can be had for less than 100 dollars.

the 800 bucks one on TCS was a dual purpose vacum and pressure thingo with pump and all , so i guess its a bit fancy smancy. I think ill definately lookg at getting a paint pot setup !

Thanks Jesse . you da man .

Comes with everything you need except the air compressor.

Probably has to do with the fact that the thread was from 2006 ... the pictures were probably removed by now.

Yeah I know that's an old thread but Mufizal had commented that it was a great tutorial two days ago I assumed the pics were still there for him or he would have mentioned it?
