Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) - 8/10
Tense WWII drama with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. The setup for this film is very similar to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which is not too surprising since both were directed by Robert Wise.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961) - 4/10
I used to watch the TV show on occasion, but good grief, the original movie was the pits. The Van Allen radiation belt ignites (huh?), raising Earth's temperature and melting the ice caps. The crew of a super-hi-tech sub must save the day. The cast includes notables such as Walter Pidgeon, Peter Lorre, Barbara Eden, and Michael Ansara, and the effects were cool enough, but the story was boring, and the title song is laughably inappropriate - this movie is about environmental disaster and the possible destruction of the planet, yet it begins with Frankie Avalon crooning: "Come with meeeeeeeee, Tooooo the seeeeaaaaaa... And weeeeee'll find lovvvvvvve"
