X-Box live question for New Console
I'm not sure if this has been touched on anywhere, so if anyone knows the answer please let me know...Ok the question is this
I have a 360 and Xbox Live..Now lets say someone on my friends list gets the New Xbox One and also is online. Seeing how there are the same games out for both consoles like (COD, Battlefield 4, AC4..Etc) and we are still on the MS X-Box Live servers can we play one another using different consoles? the same way someone may have a better PC then someone else but can still play against them online...This actually goes for both the Xbox One and PS4 and their respective services. (I know I can not play Xbox vs PS)
Again never heard anything that say's this can or can not be done, so just trying to find out...Thanks guys!

"can we play one another using different consoles?"
Short answer:
NO
Completely different machines and the games are written differently. You can't compare it to a computer because technically PCs aren't linked to generations like consoles are. Think of the PC as a car, where as time goes on you replace the engine and maybe the tires, but it's still the same car. With a console however, as time goes on, you buy a completely new car.
While the Xbox 360 may be out, and the PS4 is coming out, everyone for the last 30 odd years is still using the PC1
(I stand to be corrected though)

I wouold also have to say NO.
When the 360 came out you could play Halo 2 with people on the Original Xbox, but both consoles used the same disc. Without the backwards compatability I don't think you can.
(However I also stand to be corrected)

not only will you not be able to play games between 360 & X-1 but you won't even be able to chat between them

Maybe with all the buzz behind this issue, someone will start it rolling then they will all have to follow or be left behind. it's not a hardware issue like MS stated, that's bull. Once you have an IP you could talk to any IP if they allow it.
Here's to hoping they do!

I am sure if this does happen it will not be until next holiday season or when they see sales dropping... You are right, no way they do it now, that would affect the bottom line. But they way tech is headed, with phones, tablets ETC...they will need more than just games to compete. That's why MS is trying to push X-1 as the everything console of the future...It's just that no one is really buying into that right now.
