"Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" is the best comic book story I've ever read. It was a GREAT story, it broke new ground in art and storytelling, and -- in an all-too-rare trick -- it was definitely off its times yet remains as modern as anything being published more today than 20 years later.

This is Frank Miller's masterpiece, IMO, and the best Batman story ever told.

You just gotta read this. A wild wild ride. Thor gets his butt kicked like he never has before but with the help of a few friends, comes back and kicks some a$$ of his own. Guest starring a great Marvel character. So much violent fun I don't know where to start. Thor + Ennis + MAX...you do the math.
Thor Vikings is a great Graphic novel.

Good choice...Great series and a great read as a collection.

Obvious, but The Watchmen comes to mind.

Will Eisner's New York Trilogy
Just an amazing read.

The Dreamer is another great one, spotlighting the birth of the comic industry in the early days.

And of course Maus.
