The paint app on the portrait looks great as it is supposed to be evenly lit but the heavily exaggerated forced lighting effect on the rest of the statue is not.
I understand the rationale behind the concept but unfortunately it doesn't work well as expected. Will Harbottle is a great sculptor but he is not a painter. Colouring is not his forte.
It makes perfect sense when he says "as a sculptor I tend not to think about colour at all". The concept of paint application really shouldn't have come from him, IMO.
I love the sculpt but strongly dislike the paint app.
