Because I have about 120 1:4 statues, and 1:5 looks out of place next to them.
I don't agree with you about the size and price issue - there is negligible footprint difference or space saved, they aren't much cheaper.
Characters I really want in 1:4 getting made in 1:5 pisses me off.

1/5 scales are just an easier way for sideshow to cash in to collectors on a tighter budget with increasing prices.
I like how there is still variety across from 1/5 to legendary scale, but the amount of statue u get to dollar value is pmuch the same as compared to premium formats. 300-350 is the ideal sweet spot for 1/5 scales now, but we will probably see alot more hovering around the 400 range.
For the sake of argument, danger girl was their most recent first foray for an artist series to cross over to premium format. It doesn't seem to be doing very well as compared with the fairy tales line.

As I said I think 1/5 scales go well with 1/6 scales. But I completely get how they put off 1/4 collectors such as yourself.
The upsurge in prices baffles me. Sure there’s inflation but Tweeterhead is able to make quality 1/6 scale statues for under $300 while XM statues even if they have more intricate bases cost $200 more, almost double the cost for not double the value.
I like my statues to stay under the $500 price range and under 20inches. These comicquettes without large bases fit the bill. Even at resale prices I could still get most of the Marvel comiquettes for under $500. Maquettes and premium formats are easily over $500 with very few exceptions.

Also, when did Sideshow change the rules that maquettes were fully sculpted?

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

Masters of the Universe statues are also 1/5.
Personnally, my favorite comiquettes are Vampirella and Conan (the Prize).

PF use to have MM then they made it where be sculpted or cloth. I get why they did that I bought SSC first GG when it came out and that should have been sculpted and not cloth. Maquette also can have cloth or sculpted far as I know. Mags had cloth cape

They're not. Just look at Magneto, Rogue and Doomsday - all maquettes, all have fabric elements.

Not claiming I know all these for a fact but most everything I read online states that Marquettes are fully sculpted. My biggest hesitation for getting the new X-men line is not the 1/4 scale but the fabric elements. I was about to jump on Wolverine until I saw that Magneto and Rogue were mixed media. Not a big fan at all of something that’s degradable and easily stainable.
