Can't comment on any comparison to the book (haven't read it), but I really enjoyed the movie and the ending. My understanding (having read interviews with Darabont) was that he just didn't want to do something that was 'by the numbers'. I.e. end the movie the way 95% of similar movies end. What's wrong with that ? And he could have gotten a lot bigger budget from other studios if he had gone down the well trodden path . . . besides, the guy gave one of the best endings of all time with Shawshank

Just bought "Black Hawk Down" on Blu-Ray, and watched it for the first time. As far as war movies go, it's a 10 out of 10. As I said elsewhere, it efficiently illustrates how monstrous modern warfare can be. Excellent portrayal of horrifying subject matter.

The ending for the film was great. The books ending was crap, boring and cliche.

The Mist was like a good Twilight Zone episode to me. Amazing film because I went in blank only seeing poster images. I would give it 7/10.
