It's a great statue and all, especially being a 1/4 diorama but I can't say I know much about the character (except for the fact that he's a badass and that I still enjoy watching the 90's film every now and then even though it was crap).

Decisions, decisions

What are your thoughts, guys?
I wouldn't drop $500 on anything collectible that I didn't love personally.

I love Dredd and 2000AD, so it was a no brainer for me.

I'd say buy/read a Dredd trade or two, maybe see the new movie, then decide if you care about the character enough to drop this kind of cash on it.

Collect what you love. Love what you collect. That's my motto.

Why don't you check out the new Dredd movie in September before the statue gets released. Looks closer to the source material. See if it sparks your interest in the character more.

Well stated...too many people buy what they think will become "grail" which is a loosing game IMO. Buy what you like and you'll never regret spending any money.

lol well there are two sides to each coin, BUT the one constant is that you love the statue and will likely buy it at one time or another. The variable is what the potential preceived value is after the statue is released. Looking at it from this stand point you're much more likely to risk paying more (which is common) than less for something you know you're going to pick up at one time or another.

Sure there are exceptions to the rule, but lets take J Dredd for example with an ES of 150, great design, massive size and a ton of display options one would really be going against the odds that this one wouldn't increase in value after its release.

Anyways the precieved value of a statue after its relase is so unpredictable that trying to identify the trend is more like playing the lottery and if I LOVE/NEED a statue in my collection, I won't be chancing it that's for sure.

You're right, I definitely don't think it would happen with Dredd :P Just sayin that you would probably regret purchasing at po/start if it went down in value :P
