I'll stick to buying singles of my favorites, especially childhood faves like Tiger Shark and Werewolf by Night, which haven't had much representation before now.
so technically, they are not base cards but chase cards

No. I'm saying the opposite. Technically cards #82-90 from the base set are short printed and difficult to get. They are, however, still part of the 90 card base set, and the only base cards to feature Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine etc..

No kidding. It's so frustrating. Ever since these were announced, I was looking forward to opening them and seeing the art for the first time, just like I did with the 1992 set. Now I can only afford to buy singles, and I'll never be able to afford to get a full set. I guess only 99 people will ever be able to get a full set of base cards.

Like I said, artificial scarcity. They could have printed as many as they wanted but deliberately shorted those last ones. Really unnecessary if you ask me, these cards would have sold well regardless.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

Even the speckle and kaleidoscope holofoil and gold canvas hurts the insert/chase. Hey, you pulled a good one but not really cause there is one even more rare.

Exactly. this is a proper F You to collectors. It should have been given to Rittenhouse or another company.

I hope they publish a book with all the artwork

Yeah.. like Julie and Boris's 'Superheroes' book (or 'Titans' as it was published in the UK/hardcover form). Has the majority of the art from the 1996 masterpieces set, love that book..
Not to mention, Joe's art was - dare I say - significantly cropped.. at least from the Apocalypse I saw.. it had a big background, but the card just has his figure.. dnt know how they can do it to fine art

Those last cards may be a pain, but a least my favorite character was easy to obtain!
