The latest episode was excellent: reminiscent of Big Trouble in Little China, with a nod to Gremlins in the beginning, and characters voiced by James Hong and George Takei! This show is doing everything right.

From what I can tell, there are 8 more new episodes running into July, where they'll supposedly wrap up the Mystery Inc./Crystal Cove storyline. Hopefully, we'll see more after that. I hate the thought of this series ending.

I do want to check this out, one question though, do they use the old formula of fake ghosts which are really people dressed up like ghosts, or are they actually hunting real ghosts and monsters like the (ughgh) Scrappy Doo days. Also does Shaggy still say "Zoiks!"

It retains many characteristics of the original show, with plenty of Scooby Snacks, "zoiks", and "jinkies". There are even references made to the original here and there. The threats are still people posing as monsters, but that aspect is even more ridiculous than the original, as the monsters are much more elaborate and bizarre. Also, most episodes end with funny takes on the familiar "meddling kids" speech.

But then there's the new twists added to it, such as Fred's weird, almost singular obsession with traps, much to Daphne's annoyance. Or the fact that Velma is interested in Shaggy, but she and Scooby compete for his attention. The backstory of Crystal Cove, with Fred's dad as mayor, is very interesting. The sheriff, voiced by Patrick Warburton, is especially hilarious.

And the nods to movies such as Friday the 13th, Saw, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Terminator, and even The Wild One are just great.

Episode 19 may be the best yet: a tribute to Vincent Price, or "Vincent van Ghoul" as he's known. This is the same character that appeared in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, superbly voiced by Maurice LaMarche (Pinky and the Brain). It contains lots of great references to Price's film career and personal life.
