I plowed through Tom King’s first four Batman tpbs (i.e., issues 1-32) and I found them largely unmemorable. Of course, there were some clever moments in the mix but I struggled to find myself caring what would happen next. I kept waiting for something interesting to take place. I admit, I was curious to read all the lead up to the marriage proposal but even that was unfulfilling (i.e., marriage proposal took place on the last page of issue #32). I don’t remember Batman ever coming off this mundane and pedestrian. Far too often in this run, he came off surprisingly insecure, needy, forgiving, and dare I say it, unassertive. This isn't Batman. I can't see a kid picking up this book and thinking Batman is cool.

Well said. I bailed after the first arc. I don’t understand the love for his Batman run but, then, I’m in the minority on Morrison’s Batman work which most consider a masterpiece and I consider navel gazing drivel.

Different people like different things. I avoid Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and Bendis.

It was actually Tom King's run that got me back into reading Batman.
I enjoyed his Mr Miracle and started to read his Batman run and picked up all of the issues back to his #1. I have been enjoying it and will be reading Batman/Catwoman. I do wonder who is taking over the regular Batman title.

If you avoid Frank Miller, you are no Batman fan. He put the bat on the map again. I understand the Alan Moore part 'cause Barbara and Killing Joke, ok. You don't like Barbara get hurt like that, understandable. I believe Bendis will be great 'cause his Daredevil run was so extraordinary... that darkness that wraps up that book's atmosphere... just amazing. We need that for Batman.

I might be in the minority but even though I read Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns I thought they were just okay. Maybe I need to re-read them now to appreciate them.
Also, the funny thing about the Killing Joke is that in an interview with Alan Moore year's ago he said that he did not expect it to be part of Batman continuity.

I’ve always said the same thing. We may disagree with or not understand artistic preferences, but to each his/her own. Everyone’s entitled to what they like, artistically.

Miller did put Batman on the map again with DKN, but then went off the rails on Batman after that. I love DKN but can’t stand Miller’s subsequent Batman work. If asked, I’d say I can’t stand him either today, except for his work prior to about 1987.
