Even cats that go where they shouldn't tend to be pretty agile and light on their feet, so in my personal experience I haven't had to worry at all about breakage. And I have a lot of breakable stuff. But most cats are anything but clumsy unless they are startled or scared or whatever... This is even more true if you have a lot of bigger/heavier pieces. I mean I can't see a cat, under normal circumstances, knocking over a PF or the like, unless it is a really poorly balanced piece.

QFT. I own two cats. Only one of them is a consummate 'climber', though, and a couple of times I've found him on a shelf he shouldn't be on, but even then he would just be checking on the 'new spot", not really paying the statues any attention or putting them in any real danger.
Now, the leather furniture, on the other hand...
