Good movie, and a tear jerker.
I think that any movie involving a dog is always going to be a tearjerker

The Irishman - 5/10 - A bloated semi-snooze of a film, drifting aimlessly for extended periods of time. Could have used a tightening & not quite so many time-lines coexisting at the same time in the same movie. Great actors eating huge gobs of good dialog in hammy ways. I hate to say this but Scorsese built an epic just to build an epic that disn't need to be built.

Ex Machina 6/10 - What started as great expose on modern technology & it's use & misuse, devolves into a weak-thriller with a pervy genius getting his comeuppance after demonstrating creepy tendencies in every scene he's in.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 9/10 - Loved every minute of this beautiful movie. Great acting, great thriller, tragic/beautiful/strong heroine. The sad ending left me quite depressed.

Spoiler

I will never ever watch "Hachi: A Dog’s Tale". The mere premise breaks my heart already.

It's strange how the reviews for this movie are so polarizing here. I've always considered the ratings on this forum to trend more populist, but the general audience reviews for The Irishman are still very favorable on the three major aggregate websites (IMDB, Metacritic & Rotten Tomatoes). It seems to just not appeal to our specific subset of people (whomever we are).

I was just thinking the other day about how I didn't care for this movie because it's "slow" but I really enjoyed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Another plodding movie with nothing but dialogue. Maybe it's because I want to see Joe Pesci or Ray Liotta murder people or get murdered themselves when I see a movie about organized crime.

Hugo (3D) - I was really surprised when I discovered this movie was directed by Martin Scorcese. After his Marvel comments, I didnt think he'd make a movie this fantastical and fictitious as he seems like a more "reality" focused director. It sticks out like a sore thumb in his filmography compared to his other works, but I think he did a good job with it - 8.5/10

Mausoleum (1983) - fun horror movie about a woman that becomes possessed by a revenge demon (like all the women in her family before her) then she has fun seducing and slaughtering people. Sure it was cheesey, and the plot was more or less just an excuse to get the lead naked a bunch of times, but there was lots of gore and the make-up effects were pretty good and the kills were effective. I thought i'd dislike this movie but I actually quite enjoyed it, definitely an 80's gem - 7.5/10

Voices from Beyond (1991) - Interesting movie from Italian director Lucio Fulci. Pretty much about a guy who is murdered, then he communicates with his daugther as a spirit to help her solve the mystery of his murder, but he needs to help her before his body decomposes because once that happens he wont be able to communicate with her anymore. I thought it was well done, had some good effects and good moments, but overall not one of Lucios best, and definitely a departure from the usual gore fests he is known for - 6.5/10

We watched this just last night. I'd score it about the same as you, but my 12-year-old really enjoyed it.

If nothing else, Karen Gillan's presence makes it very watchable. Hard to believe that she's both Ruby Roundhouse and Nebula.
