advice on fixing sideshow ironman's glossy armor paint?

hi, i recently got an ironman similar to the one below and some paint came off (about the size of a half a finger nail).

Becuase the armor paint is high gloss and air brushed on(i think), i am at a loss how to fix it. Can someone please offer some advise? Like specific paint type to use? and can i just brush it on?

I had some regular model master glossy acrylic paint but they are not shining like his armor so i wiped it off again with a wet cloth.

Thanks

Airbrushing will give a different texture that using a brush. Check out this link and videos.

Your statue most likely has a layer of silver paint under the top coat to help give it the metalic effect.

I have painted a ton of the sideshow IM's they are painted with a red base and a candy coat. Trying to cover a chip and matching the paint will be very tough, if not impossible. In fact I am painting one right now.

It's the coat that was scratched off not the base paint. From my research i found the tamiya XF27 clear red is the color to use, it actually matches exactly with the ironman color BUT the paint is too thin i put on 3 coats already and it just doesnt cover that chip.

where as when in other statues i used model master which seems much thicker, and would just fill the area covering it up nicely.

any ideas?

I paint models for a living. A transparent red, allowing the silver to show through will be almost impossible to hand paint with a good results. The best approach would be to sand the area smooth, airbrush a similar silver (or whatever metallic is there), and then spray the red, feathering it to blend in, finally clear coat. Not an easy touch-up. If you really want to hand paint and the paint is just too thin, I would suggest several coats, allowing the paint to dry in between.

If you need help, I am available for hire.
