The Counselor - 6.5/10

Decent stylish dramatic triller from Director Ridley Scott. As with any RS effort the Cinematography is excellent but the acting and especially the dialogue is what carries this film. The casual viewer will almost certainly take issue with the film's plot and ultimate conclusion due to it's ambiguousness. This is a very bleak film, the subject matter dark and it will get under your skin if you let it. Compared to Scott's other works this is definitely on the bottom of the scale and will probably only appeal to genre fans. Nonetheless I still enjoyed it despite it's shortcomings.

I saw these over the last few weeks:

Fruitvale Station (2013) - I can't comment on the movie's accuracy concerning the actual events, but the story that was presented on screen is heartbreaking. 9/10

Blue Jasmine (2013) - Great cast. Cate Blanchett overdoes it at times, but then again, how do you act crazy without going a little overboard? 8/10

Gravity (2013) - The story was nothing groundbreaking, but it looked incredible. I give the IMAX 3D version a perfect rating. 10/10

Lee Daniels' The Butler (2013) - Very nice story, average presentation. 6/10

Rush (2013) - Hot cars and hot women in the glam 70s--well done by director Ron Howard. 8/10

Prisoners (2013) - I found unexpected depth in this clever thriller. 8/10

Enough Said (2013) - It felt refreshingly real. James Gandolfini was very good. 8/10

Only God Forgives (2013) - Simultaneously exquisite and abhorrent. 5/10

Don Jon (2013) - It was quite funny. And Scarlett Johansson looked GOOD. 6/10

La vie d'Adèle / Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) - The girls' relationship was portrayed very passionately. 9/10

Dallas Buyers Club (2013) - Excellent performances by Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. 8/10

Enders Game 6/10

The "twist" seemed pretty obvious to me but it wasn't a terrible movie.

Seven Psychopaths...9/10

I love Rockwell, I love Walken, and I love Harrelson...and on his day I think Colin Farrell is superb, so this was amazing for me.

So so funny in places, and a really good Walken performance (when isn't it though?)

Been looking forward to seeing this one. Your rating just bumped it up to the top of my queue.
