Shading human flesh?

I use chalks for all my shading, but what colors are used in general when shading human flesh?

Not sure about chalks but with acryilic paint you are supposed to add just a touch of red or brown to some of the existing flesh base color you used then go over it lightly with the original base flesh color to make it look more natural.

Do I thin the red or brown down? Do I essentially dry-brush it on?

I highy recommend using chalks for shading human fleshtones. They are basically foolproof because they are so easy to correct. I swear by them for all shading needs. I enjoy the upclose and precise nature of using them.

Chalk pastels(not oil pastels).
You use them by rubbing a stick on a swatch of sandpaper and that creates a fine powder. Then you use a short bristle paint brush to apply it. If you can.. checkout David Fisher Model Mania #4 dvd. He has a very helpful demo of how to use pastels there. When i first saw the technique used i thought i would never want to try it. Now, pastel work has nearly replaced my airbrush for shading and detailing. I get a pack of 48 various color sticks for $5.00 so it's well worth experimenting with them. Good luck
