I know it technically is a "comic book movie" but I always saw Iron Man as having some of the best cross-appeal. If done well, it could bring in a lot of the mecha-anime fans. And kids would absolutely love to play as Iron Man. If Hulk hands and Thing feet sell off the shelves, what would a wicked Iron Man armor do?

So when Ahnold loses his re-election bid, he could play Iron Man!

Man I hope they do this right. Tony Stark is just a cool Muther...shut your mouth. If I had my way I would cast one of three people:
1. Resurrect Clark Gable. "Frankly, Captain America, I don't give a damn!"
2. A young Burt Reynolds.
3. A young Tom Selleck with acting ability.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

Well, since Tom was up for the role before he did War of the Worlds- he did sign on. Now since he has done that movie- he has decided to not do it. As far as I know-there has never been anyone else in mind.
But who else-besides the old guys could do that role...
hmmmmm....what about Jake Glynhall(sp)-new kid in Jarhead?

Unfortunately a lot of today's actors are either too old or just don't have the class to play him.
Anyone but Cruise.

You hit it right on the head. I don't know about the off screen man, but Gable had class. Smooth. Guys like that you could see on screen and say hey I wouldn't mind being like him. Today? Forget it. (except for me maybe Denzel fits in that category and Sean Connery for when I get older.) I think unfortunately its a by-product of TMI in regards to their private lives. There are TV shows about Tv Shows. (Extra, E entertainmant, Access Hollywood, Entertainment tonight) Then the magazines "Brad Pitt: Is he regular? Photo's from his toilet in this issue of US weekly."
It leads to the Ben Afleck effect. i.e. "He's playing Daredevil? Aww Crap!"

Johnny Depp as Stark sounds interesting. But I also thought of Tom Selleck back in his heyday would have seemed interesting.
Hell, how about Gary "Commish Gordon" Oldman?!?!
