Question Generic statue bases. Anybody have a source?

Looking for a cheap source for generic statue bases.

They need to look a lot like the lower portion of a Bowen base. Many are round or oval. Then the sculptor builds his/her base on top of that.

I searched online, but what I found wasn't ideal or cheap. Some were wood, marble, and glass. Didn't see anything in poly stone.

Anybody?

I have seen that and done that. And seen all his other video too. But the sculpts I do are meant to fit neatly in my Bowen collection. I would need a wood working lathe to at least match the round ones like on the base of Museum Silver Surfer but then I'm stuck with wood or recasting.

Now that I think about it, the other way would be to spin it on a turn table. Has anybody done sculpey or Apoxie Sculpt on a clay wheel? Is there a diy mini version of that? Where is the ghost of Patrick Swayze?

why not make a mold of an existing plain bowen base?

That's probably the best idea, or going out a hobby store and getting a piece of wood the same approximate size and shape and molding that.

You can get these from Hobby Lobby pretty cheap

I use sculpey for all my bases but none of the sculpey bases are round. However, you can just achieve that by placing something circular over the sculpey to get that shape. Then removing the item and then baking it. After its baked add the sculpt or other details on top and bake again.

For the record I too use wood for my round bases, you can make it look very shiney and smooth with the right paint and wood.
