Any tips to repaint a base

I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on painting this base, I hate the orange and wanted to repaint it black.

I'm a total noob when it comes to painting so I was wondering what type of paint should I get and would a spray can do or should I buy a airbrush kit?

Thanks

I love air brushing but a spray can would do. Scuff up the existing paint with some fine sand paper or a scrub pad. After the spray coat, you could dry brush a little silver, grey, or dirt color with acrylic paint to give it a battle damaged look. Spray with a matte clear coat to finish. I would try all of this on something with no value first to make sure I liked it
