Indeed this is not Canale's best work.
The right arm including cape and some bats 'as one giant blob' and the crotch area Are two things that don't look good.
The longer face from a distance gives a bit Christian Bale in comic style vibe.

Yes, it's a 1/4 custom piece based on Alex Ross' art. It also comes with a bunch of other switch out parts and 2 more portraits.

It's really weird. I am not qualified to critique sculptors' abilities but I do not like that and I wish Canale would remove weird angles like this.

This would’ve been a good pose for a classic comic Venom without a bunch of extra texture and swirls and patterns that he shouldn’t have yet Sideshow and XM love to give him.
Pose would’ve worked for Batman too if they didn’t do too much with it, as they did. Sometimes simpler and basic is better. But no, let’s sway the cape in one direction, but have him nonsensically grab it in another direction so it zig zags across his back, but let’s be interpretive and have smoke and bats merge into it so he can “become one with the night” and top it off with a weird face!

Well Sideshow has been trying many different ideas this past year or so. Some work great like their Deadly Nature Poison Ivy, and some definitely don’t, such as this one. You win some, you lose some.

I think this is where SS has been for sometime especially with certain characters. Now even more so with slowing sales they will just try different things and its ok that the ES is not huge because they will have another chance.
For me really the thing that prevents me from buying is the portrait, in some views it looks alright and others it looks to much. Batman being to stylized while the rest of the collection isn't will bug me.

Hell, just make THAT Batman! Minimize the base a bit, keep the sculpted cape, make it Sideshow affordable, and watch those POs roll in.

When it comes to Batman, Sideshow is like the world of education:
“Well this approach makes total sense and would benefit so many people...nah! Let?s do it the way we want?"
