Hot water heater?

Anyone ever replace a water heater? Mine just started leaking tonight and it looks like it needs to be replaced. Just wondering if I could do it myself to Dave some money.

Cross country skiing is great if you live in a small country.

You can but you need to be able to braze copper pipe for water connections . Also physically taking out old heater and putting in new one is quite a task .

Man, with Heroes coming up this is bad timing for sure Steve! Please post details as this process goes along … I have a feeling mine will be up for replacement before too long. How old is yours?

If you need it replaced, check home depot and sears. When i thought i had to replace mine when i moved into this house i checked prices everywhere. They seemed to be the cheapest.

Plumbers will rob you blind if you call one of them and don't know prices out there.

Also not sure but if you get a energy star one thats big enough for the house hold you may get rebates etc. thats also something to look into. Tons of rebates out there for energy savers items, just need to meet the requirements.

Old enough to have at least a couple kids and be posting on here, apparently.

I never had to replace mine... I would think those heaters would be beasts to move.

priced a couple plumbers this morning. With the size of our heater, it is going to cost us $1400 to get it replaced. About average from the places I called. definitely not good timing but with a house with a wife and three daughters, hot water is a must. bad timing indeed with Heroes in less than two weeks.

Replace it yourself if you are good at DIY goods or ask some friends if they know how or if they know any plumbers.

Did you get to check the Valve those go bad usually and cause water to poor out, making you think the hole heater is bad.
Now if the water is cold and no leaks.. its a bad element, some can be replaced.
Good luck, hope it works out.
