To keep or not keep private and why?

Hi everyone,

Just curious to hear how many of us keep our art collections private and if there is a reason why?

Do you have art that you do share and others you don't etc?

I myself have kept my collection private, but have recently decided that I want to start sharing it publicly on comicartfan. I like the idea for several reasons. One reason being that it allows you to share something that you enjoy with others who will appreciate it in different ways as well as help keep a record of ownership etc.

Look forward to hearing from everyone.

I think half the fun of owning art is having other people appreciate it as well.

This goes for comic art or otherwise. I get a lot of unique pieces of art, jewelry and such from the Ann Arbor Art festival and it's always nice to hear somebody comment on a piece

My teensy collection is on CAF, can't wait to see your collection on there too!

A friend of mine has displayed a very small number of pieces from his collection in the past but prefers to keep the bulk of his collection private.

He's previously stated that he's received numerous enquiries from others asking him to sell pieces (often offering ridiculously low prices) that he can't be bothered displaying the art any longer.

I don't possess many pieces which are near the quality of his collection so I don't often experience the same issue but I can see how it would be aggravating after awhile.

I used to be more private with my artwork. Not so much anymore. I've grown to quite enjoy the enjoy the interaction at CAF. I met some really nice people.

A few years back, I received a number of PMs through CAF asking to purchase some of my artwork which I did not have up for sale. The offers were quite lowball. When I respectfully declined to sell the pieces which weren't even up for sale to begin with, I received really rude responses. It kind of turned me off from posting stuff for a while. Thankfully, that turned out to be a bad luck of the draw as I haven't received PMs like that in a long while, yet in one year (2006?), I had received a number of them.

Nowadays, I seem to get more PMs from sellers than potential buyers.
