What does a $1,000 commission look like?
I post this in jest but also with some seriousness. Heard that an artist who's work I think is interesting is pricing commissions at this level.
While that price is a non starter for me unless it was a mega name, curious to see what type of quality people would expect for this price.

Didn't we have a 1K thread?
I don't know as I haven't gone that high on a commission. It would have to be an artist that I really like and/or had a strong track record of super high quality commissions, preferably both.

I paid well over that for a commission. It was a large piece from one of my favorite artists so that's how I justified it at the time. Looking back I can't believe my wife actually approved the commission but it is the centerpiece of my collection. I'd love to get another one but can't bring myself to spend that much again unless I come into a lot of cash.

I paid 3 times that for a JSC commission. So, you're right in believing the atrocity of the price is really dependent on the quality and popularity of the artist name.
J Scott Campbell = okay
random Devientart member = shaky
random eBay artist = no es bueno

That $1k club post is way buried. That was a good one. The list was getting huge. It's funny, I'll pay that much for a cover of some published art, but, I dont know I could for a commission. My Granov was $800, that's prob my ceiling.

Tim Sale commissions run at this level when I looked into it at the end of last year. I am not taking about the 150.00 or 300.00 convention sketch he does.

I think the 1k+ club is reserved for really big name artists....I mean folks like Arthur, and Adam and J Scott.....you know folks who are so big you don't need to write their last names for you to know who I'm talking about

Has to be more than just pencil and a single figure.

This is true. You can get a lot of artists to 1K if you add more elements to the commission. Inks, colors, multiple characters, detailed background, etc.
