Recreating Ra's Al Ghul's First Appearance In Batman 232

Searching "Batman 232" in CAF, Google, or Deviantart will show that there are really no recreations done of this cover.

But this is classic Neal Adams - he created Ra's Al Ghul -so I would have expected someone to take a crack at it.

Hence, I decided to do it myself and posted it in my CAF (I am now a premium member so size is bigger).

Since it was my first time using Strathmore, I realized that pens have ink bleed so I aborted the pen work after the first few moments. I went through the more difficult brush method but still used the pens for the straight lines and logos.

This is also the first time I ever drew all the logos by hand and filled in the blacks with brush. Quite a cumbersome and time-consuming process but good practice for me.

Because of the difficulties of getting good ink lines with this paper, and based on the suggestion of artist Julius Abrera that this works well with pencil - I aborted any ideas I entertained of doing Ra's Al Ghul in ink. I drew him in pencils complete with shading, and I think the result is decent and much better than if I had inked it.

This is my first piece using Strathmore paper courtesy of artist Harvey Tolibao who has released his own brand of art boards in the Philippines called HMT Comic Board.

Here is an in-hand picture of the art with the reference pics and the pens used to make it:

Let me know what you guys think and please be considerate - I am just an amateur artist and do these things purely for fun.

It was a pain in the ass but if you look closer, there are a lot of crooked lines and imbalanced areas but at least gives a hand-made feel to it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Lawyer by profession.

Original art collector by passion.

Run a golf shop for a living.

I have always been drawing since I was a kid, and I just do art on my spare time.

If I was not an amateur, I would make my own storytelling, layouts and perspective - but I don't really have time for that. So I just do these recreations for fun.

The real art by the professional artists cost me a fortune and are hanging on my wall.
