That's a good idea, but you do it at the risk of the paint job. I'm overly protective here, so take it for what it's worth, but any heating that softens the statue enough to move certainly damages the paint job on the surface. May not be immediately noticeable, but damage has occurred...
Heat is just the movement of molecules. You've moved those paint molecules...
