The Boy and the Heron - 8/10 - this film is quintessential Ghibli from its settings of real world tragedy and fantasy world strangeness. Gorgeous animation to say the least here. Basically if you liked prior work you'll like it, if not then pass.

Salem's Lot on Max 2024

A pretty tight version coming in at just 1:53. Not as good as the original, David Soul version, but much better than the Rob Love version. Love that it's set in the late 70's, but the nostalgia seems rushed & not quite there (I was there). Still, it's nice to see a new, fat Vampire Movie & all the original scares are here in this version. The lead is no David Soul, but the kid is great & steals the movie. Of course the great James Mason as the Vampire' Familiar were tall shoes to fill & his replacement is just adequate in this version. Well worth a Halloween watch. 8/10

Planning on watching this. Watched the original ...and loved that one. The second one was ok. Excitement to see this new one just bumped up.

Joker: Folie a Deux (2024)
7.7/10

Not as bad as many recent reviews will have you believe.
Not as good as the first movie.

Admittedly i tired off the amount of scenes that broke out into song.
The main issue was a lack of any sense of story other than Arthur's life behind bars and standing trial.
It could be argued that Joker 2 is a short movie elongated by musical moments.
On the subject of 'musical moments' (breaking out into song) atleast they did not drag every song to full length.
Cut out all the Gaga 'musical moments' and she is not in the movie nearly enough.
Arthur Fleck behind bars makes for miserable viewing (i guess that's the idea). A case of more suffering for Arthur.

The Kinema In The Woods

As per usual, there is a mid movie break, to go grab Popcorn etc.
Uprises from below ground level is an organ player to keep those who do not want to leave their seats.
Last night he played a number of 007 themes.

Capricorn One (1977)
7/10

Someone at work recommended this.
It is a solid movie. Not perfect. Watchable.
Dated in places. Interesting twists.
..and what an ending!

-1 for O. J. Simpson (murderer!.. )
+1 for Telly Savalas

Hanger 18 (1980)
6/10

Recommended to me by the same person who recommended Capricorn One.
It is not a bad movie. Dated in places. Slow in places. Picks up towards the end.
The special fx show their age, and a possible low budget.
Atleast the big fire was real!
The UFO theme gets my thumbs up!

Boss Level - 8/10

Groundhog Day meets John Wick.

Don't expect anything highbrow. Switch your brain off for a couple of hours and laugh at the multiple silly deaths that occur.

Joker: Folie a Deux - 7.5 out of 10. Like others have said on this thread, it isn't as bad as the initial concerns made it out to be. Like the first movie though, you definitely don't leave the theater happy. The movie is dark.

Enjoyed seeing a toned down Gaga.
