home made oven question

I am planning on making an oven to put outside to bake my sculptures in. I will be using drywall to make the oven and a heat gun to get the temperature correct. I remember seeing a thread about something like that, but I haven't been able to find it. Can anyone help?

Thanks

I'm not sure where the thread is, but I remember the pic of his garage that he posted shortly after giving those directions.

I'm confused. You're planning on making an oven out of drywall?

C'mon, man.. you have five minutes of firewall protection with drywall. A couple minutes more with blueboard.

This will be outside and I plan on venting it enough that the temp should be well below anything that will catch fire. Also, I am just playing with this to see if it will work. It will be nowhere near anything flameable.

Why don't you just buy an used oven and have it setup outside of the house for baking your clay.

I hadn't thought of that. So far, it looks like the plan I currently have will run me about $25 bucks. I just wanted to re-read that thread.

The thought of making my own oven that I can put larger sculpts in and bake without the stench (in the house) appeals to me.

I googled the flashpoint of drywall and found that the flashpoint would be 451 degrees (the flashpoint of paper). I will not even come close to that hot. I plan on testing it and adding venting until I hit about 200.

Hi there.

I found this link, its showing the steps to construct an oven out of concrete and breeze blocks, none of which are too expensive, but if this a long term hobby of yours then well worth putting up this permanent and more stable structure than using just drywall.

You don't have to do all those fancy things that it shows, and you may have to modify it for your purposes but this could be a good alternative and worth the effort.
