As long as Alita 2 is made, I'll be happy. But the long waits involved in this 'hobby' can be hard to take.

Yeah I've been thinking recently of shifting more from 1/6 to statues, but I don't know if I could stand to wait that long between new releases. Lol

I wish some company would do Alita in 1/3 or 1/4 in full berserker body. I know I can pose the Hot Toys figure that way, but joints on that figure disrupt the elegant cyborg design.

I don’t believe it’s been green lighted yet, if ever.

The last I heard is, that all the creators want to make a sequel, but they always say that.

Then again Tomb Raider 2 got green lit, which I never thought would happen. And I liked that film, but it didn’t exactly make much if any money.

Tomb Raider and Alita did well outside of the United States. Many film series these days can get a second life thanks to markets such as China and others.

-----------------------

Tomb Raider
Budget - $94 million

Domestic: $58,250,803 21.2%
+ Foreign: $216,400,000 78.8%
= Worldwide: $274,650,803

Alita: Battle Angel
Budget - $170 million

Domestic: $85,710,210 21.2%
+ Foreign: $319,142,333 78.8%
= Worldwide: $404,852,543

-------------

The percentages are exact down to tenth of a percent. Alita made more, but it cost more so Tomb Raider actually might have been more profitable and safer to do a sequel from a studio perspective. Alita is 50/50 to get a sequel, maybe if they could do it for $130 million by reusing sets and effects might get a shot. I hope so as loved it.

I think Prime 1 nailed the portrait more than Hot Toys
Hot Toys is close, but slightly off by Hot Toys standards (they don't always get it right)
Prime 1 have done an amazing job. I love the base design (i think i've mentioned that already)
For the moment, i doubt i'll pre_order this. I have other priorities.

Umm you do realise that they don’t get all the receipts from the worldwide box office right.

From Domestic you get a bigger chunk of the pie over those from the international markets. But even so the percentage you take from domestic may average around 2/3 of the takings over the life of the film (usually lower actually, unless you’re Disney), but internationally it may be as low as 1/3 depending on how much of the box office was earned from China (From China the studios have been estimated to only get around 25%).

And be aware that those numbers sourced from Box Office Mojo don’t ‘usually’ include the Print and Advertising amounts spent! Sometimes it can be more than the production budget, especially for the films that don’t cost as much. For example for Endgame the production budget was $356 million, but the P&A has been estimated to be anywhere from $150 to $200 million (Deadline). Endgame was estimated to have hit it’s cash break even point on its second weekend when it had reached 1.220 billion at the worldwide box office.

And the numbers above do have to get adjusted by how well it does in digital media, merchandise rights etc. But I remember looking at it previously and though it of course does improve profitability, it wasn’t nearly as much as I once thought it would be.

So while Tomb Raider may have been borderline profitable, Alita definitely wasn’t. Especially when you take into account P&A. Variety had an article which estimated the breakeven point for Alita to be around $500 million at the box office, though Fox did dispute that amount at the time.
