A cautionary tale..

This unfortunately happened to a buddy of mine:

Paypal unfortunately is very buyer friendly so he has an uphill battle here.

Reminder to do your diligence when selling art as there are scammers out there targeting collectors.

That's messed up. I've not actually sold any of my art yet, but getting references makes sense if doing it through CAF.

That is despicable

I hope the local police get involved and take care of this

What was the price of the art? I know that was a pricey piece

Augen... what are you talking about?

This is a an older painting by Gabriele Dell'Otto (approx value probably around 3kish)

Ryan sold the piece to a guy who paid through Paypal.

The scammer received the piece and asked to return it for whatever reason.

The return was initiated through Paypal... as soon as shipment of the return is confirmed, Paypal pays out the refund.

The returned package was received back, only to find that the original buyer didn't send back the original piece of art. They returned a photocopy of the art.

Scammers are assholes and they should all burn.

Having said that, the original seller should not have sold this expensive piece of art to this guy in the first place.

The transaction was started via contact through CAF. The 'buyer' had a brand new profile with zero art. To me, those are already red flags that would have made me not sell.

In any case, here is the buyer's information if he ever reaches out to buy something from any of yall.

Oh, I thought his friend was the artist. I misunderstood.

I was reading about this earlier. Absolutely horrible.

I've been contacted numerous times by people on CAF with new accounts and no art posted looking to buy art from me. Thankfully I've never agreed to sell anything.
