POLL: Who has fallen further?

Got to be Claremont IMO. With all the complaints about these two, I am interested in hearing what everyone else thinks.

Claremont has been consistently heading downhill for some time now, and from his more recent work, I doubt he can ever recover.

I have a smidgen of hope for Byrne. At least some of his more recent work has been enjoyable.

Both. Claremont is a joke. 95% of his dialogue is character exposition. He has to rehash everyones powers and origin in every frikkin pannel of every book he does. His "sequal" to God Loves Man Kills (one of the finest OGN's ever written) was disgusting, I put it down there with DK 2 and the sequal to kingdom come.

Byrne is a douche. The Next Men weren't even that great. He'll never be where he was when he did the FF. Or Alpha Flight for that matter.

Both of them need to hook up with Todd Mcfarlane, and play chicken with a greyhound bus in a '79 MG.

CC's writing has gone to the crapper ever since early 1990s Xmen days.

Claremonts writing has been bloody awful for over a decade now.

Bryne did a great job revamping Superman, the Legends Mini Series, his Generations series and has more recently redeemed himself yet again with Blood of the Demon.

I'm sure the right inker could still rescue Byrne. Claremont is beyond hope.

Now that Byrne is taking on multiple books again they are bringing in some good inkers, but I thought this thread was about writing.

Ah. I still see him primarily as a penciller. I think his best days as a writer, like Claremont's, are behind him, but I have never read a Byrne-penned book as horrible as Excalibur.

Pick up Blood of the Demon ... Byrne is writing and drawing it and it's a GREAT read. Byrne is also drawing Adventures of Superman again and DC's bringing in Terry Austin to ink it.

Terry Austin is the 'right inker' I had in mind! I'd love it if Byrne could return to Marvel as an artist and produce the calibre of work we know he is capable of. I really enjoyed the original X-Men series he did a while back, but it's acrimonious cancellation makes a reconciliation unlikely for the moment. There have been two FF:The End books rumoured already with different creative teams, but the one I'd most like to see would be drawn by John Byrne. .
