SF Best of 2006!! COMICS!

Statue Forum Best of 2006 - Comics

Categories (feel free to add your own)

My nominees’ (feel free to add your own)
* Who would get the final vote from me?

Best Comic:
Ex Machina
Y
Astonishing X-men
Daredevil
52
*Fables
The book is solid, always entertaining.

Best Collected Edition:
Absolute Sandman
X-men Omnibus
*Absolute New Frontier
Kraven’s Last Hunt
What a great story and art and the extra's are eye popping.

Best Mini Series:
House of M
*Infinite Crisis
Civil War
Eternals
Justice
Enough fanboy momments to make it my pick, even if it had some holes.

Best New Title:
JSA Classified
*All Star Superman
52
Jack of Fables
Not a huge fan of the art, but I love the imagination of this book.

Title deserving wider recognition:
*Walking Dead
Ex Machina
Fables
Runaways
Lone Ranger (that’s for you WKTF!)
I know it's always picking up steam, but this is a great read. This was due to BC recommendation I picked this up. I couldn't put the trades down once I started read 4 volumes quick, once I finished one Vol. I couldn't get to the store fast enough to get another.

Best Writer:
Morrison (Batman)
*Brian K Vaugh (Y)
R. Kirkman (Walking Dead)
Johns (JSA, Infinite Crisis)
Mark Millar (C.War)
Y, Ex Machina, Runaways, Dr. Strange and Pride make this an easy choice I hope he doesn't slow with going Hollywood.

Best Penciler:
Perez (I. Crisis)
McNiven (C.War)
Alan Davis (F4 the End)
*D. Cook (Batman/Spirit)
JR JR (Eternals)
Cook can't draw a bad book in my opinion.

Any other categories should be included?
Should we start a Worst of 2006?

This is tough.

Best Comic: Captain America, the standout book of this year for the second consecutive year.

Best Collected Edition: Absolute Sandman (I love New Frontier but, as a collected edtion, Sandman stands out more)

Best Mini Series: King Arthur vs. Dracula (It started in 05 but finished in 06)

Best New Title: Immortal Iron Fist. Only one issue into it but I love it.

Title deserving wider recognition: Lone Ranger, for sure! (Thanks, Aarrgghh!!) Runner up: Blade and then Black Panther.

Best Writer: Ed Brubaker (Captain America, Daredevil)

Best Penciler: Really tough...Darwin Cooke on Batman/Spirit and The Spirit. After that, JR JR on Eternals.

And my addition to these categories:

Best OGN: Pride of Baghdad

I agree with this, but only since I haven't read Pride yet it may change.

I haven't read that yet either. I really like most of Vaughn's books, so I need to find a copy.

Pride of Baghdad

Folks, for those who have not yet read Pride of Baghdad I seriously advise you do so. It's an extremely important, beautifully written and illustrated book.

Sam and I both reviewed it in the same week. For those interested you can find the reviews here:

I thought the first half of Astonishing X-Men was really good. Then after that I have only thought a few issues were good. Runaways is a really good title.
