In five days, the movie has outgrossed the entire run of Captain America: Winter Soldier.

It's also outpacing The Last Jedi even though that movie had the benefit of holiday season.

I liked this film quite a bit. I did wonder why they didn't call it, "Wakanda" instead of Black Panther though, as it was really an ensemble film. It was as much about the other characters from Wakanda as it was about T'Challa.

It may have out grossed Captain America: Winter Soldier, but IMO, that movie is still the best of the MCU. Easily a 10/10 for me.

My coworker, who is a generation (or two) older than me asked if I liked the movie. He knows I go to see all the comic book movies and am a true geek. He has seen all of the previous MCU films, but told me that he had no intention of seeing a movie that is "tied in with a terrorist organization" (the Black Panther Party). I reeled him back in and explained there is NO ASSOCIATION between the two, just poorly timed name game where the comic character was actually first. I also sent him a little YouTube video....after I also informed him that the Black Panther was created by two, white Jews from New York.

Now he is very interested in seeing the movie. I didn't tell him any of the plot, just that I liked the movie a lot. He hasn't yet, but I'm really hoping he does. I'm SURE that he will have an opinion on the message of the film (aka Killmonger's reasoning for his actions). I welcome the open discussion he and I have. It's really refreshing to be able to have debates without screaming matches.

Agreed! It was one of the MCU's better movies, but I wouldn't say it cracked my top five.

CA: Winter Soldier
Iron Man
CA: Civil War
Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 1

I could put it at #6 though.

First two Cap movies are the best MCU movies, followed by IM and Avengers and CW. Haven't seen BP yet.
