The official figures are $21.9 million at the domestic box office. And something like $18 million internationally. This movie did indeed go straight to Hell....

And the movie has burned any future possibility of another film being made. Gotta believe tying up the Del Toro trilogy was still the better idea. Would’ve made more than this.

I can't believe Mignola put his stamp of approval on this abortion of a film. I still don't understand what the problem was going with a Del Toro trilogy? Was it money?

It was a few hurdles and none of them were a lack of willingness on the part of Del Toro & Perlman. Del Toro’s busy schedule was difficult to work with. The studio didn’t want to give him the budget he felt he needed. They knew both him and Perlman would only be good for one more film. They felt there was more money in rebooting the franchise rather than tying up the existing one.

Probably sounded like a good bet at the time but it backfired on them.
