The Church - The Blurred Crusade (1982)

An amazing album from start to finish. Lots of late '80s & early '90s alternative bands took cues from these guys - for better or worse.

It's hard to believe I was 13 when this came out. Ugh...

The Rolling Stones - Blue & Lonesome (2016)

Recorded in three days, these blues covers are very reminiscent of the more stripped-down tracks on Exile on Main Street. This is the best Stones release in quite some time.

Procol Harum - Grand Hotel (1974)

Supposedly, this isn't a concept album, but it may as well be. The tracks all have a similar mood/sound, and it's very fluid when listened to in one sitting.

Beggar's Banquet - The Rolling Stones

Can - Tago Mago (1971), Ege Bamyasi (1972), Delay 1968 (1981), and others...

I recently watched High-Rise, and while I didn't enjoy the movie, the music was excellent. Several songs are by the German experimental rock band Can, and what music of theirs I've checked out since then holds up amazingly well, considering that some of it is almost 50 years old. They've influenced countless performers, including David Bowie, Brian Eno, Beck, Radiohead, and the Flaming Lips.
