Haven't we all gone over this many times before??
A giclee is NEVER a litho, and vice versa. "Lithograph" refers to the lithography printing process, which has been around for ages. Posters are made using lithography and they look nice, but they are printed on cheaper paper that can wrinkle in your hands.
A giclee is the finest reproduction technique available today, and utilized digitization to EXACTLY match the original (and in many cases, the color can be punched up so it looks BETTER than the original). It also removes size limitations, as giclees of Alex's work (for example) can be blown up 2 or 3 times larger than the original and not lose any quality. Giclee's can be printed on just about any surface, but most commonly they are printed on either canvas or a high grade fine art watercolor paper.
There was never a paper version of "Descent on Gotham". The only other version (besides the canvas giclee) was the small DC Direct matted print that was done 6 or 7 years ago (die cut matting, and printed on clear acetate). That little print alone can get up to $300-$400 with a halfway decent frame on it.
I'm sure there are a dozen other threads that have some of this info and more as well. Anyone want to show mwf6171 the way?
If you wish to PM me or email me, I would be happy to answer any and all of your questions in full to clear up any remaining confusion. Good luck in your search for cool posters!
