He had to do it once before when she slipped in the tub and dislocated her shoulder, but down the road he had to go to court and was jailed because he ran a red light while driving her to the hospital and was found in contempt of court by the judge after calling him an idiot. 
So the bonding between them broke down.
Hence this would be a good time for Sheldon to have to wait on her hand and foot and be drive nuts.

I think she should just have the broken leg written into the series. could lead to the characters having to try to fix the elevator but it still not working (because I enjoy the talks they have going up the stairs)

well it sounds like she broke it right before they were supposed to film so maybe she is in the hospital for a couple days and can't make it. even with a 2 week recovery i doubt she will have her cast off and that it will be explained she hurt herself while "gone" from the one episode.
