Talking EU Customs and Reward Points.

I decided to query an import duty/VAT bill from FedEx. They wanted 179.55 Euro in import taxes for Sauron PF. I had used in excess of $300 of reward points against the figure bringing it down from $899.99 plus shipping to $520 plus shipping. I pointed out to FedEx that I had only paid SS a total of $614 and they agreed. Put in a query to customs and I am 63 Euro better off. Not sure how my fellow EU citizens are doing but happy that Irish Customs are being reasonable on this. Makes the Rewards Points doubly useful.

So if FedEx is trying to charge you the full amount query it. Save yourself some money.

Technically, you did pay full value. You got away with this one, I think.

Ssc will declares it at full value even though you used points. Personally, I do not agree with it. It should be what you pay not what's it sold for.

I hope ssc changes it's policy down the road.

that would never work here in Belgium... They don't even refund the import fees when we need to issue a full refund

I used my reward points to order Echo and Fives figure pack so I had only to pay $38 for shipping and, when the package arrived last week, Fedex quoted me 50,30 Euros in taxes concept. I called a Fedex rep and they told me that customs forced them to calculate taxes based on full value not what Sideshow charged me and that any claim would be useless.

Well done! Convincing customs isn't easy.

That's good news lad.
But I wouldn't be surprised if we have query every single invoice that comes through. For some reason it'll depend on whoever is processing the invoice and their interpretation of the VAT

That's the annoying aspect for sure. Seems to be a hell of a lot of personal interpretation when it comes to imports. And unless people question them they get away with murder.
