Looks like "The Force Awakens" in the Alien genre.

In that it doesn't look original?

Yeah. There are some "new" nuances but meh.
I'll go see it but I'm ready for disappointment.

Yeah, from the trailer I can understand that. Given it's RS Directing I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt though. I think he'll touch on a lot of the ideas/mystery put forth in Prometheus rather than just re-hash familiar territory covered in ALIEN. If not I will be disappointed as well.

If we don't get some answers to the questions Prometheus raised (it doesn't look promising from the trailer) I will be extremely disappointed.
It makes sense that they don't want to give everything away in the previews, so keep hoping for some surprises. I think the ship you see on the ground is the one that Shaw and David's head flew away in.

Shaw specifically left to go visit the home of the engineers, not the homeworld of the aliens.* So what happened? Do the writers of these films even care about continuity from one film to the next?

*just going to label them aliens. Xenomorphs, or morphs, or neomorphs, protomorphs, or any other name you want to use is fine with me. But they are aliens.

I think everyone is holding their breath that this doesn't turn out to merely be a soft reboot of ALIEN.

Just as in Prometheus, there's probably a holographic recording on this planet left behind by the engineers that explains something about the origin of the aliens. But in all likelihood, it won't supply a lot of information because Hollywood.

If all we discover is that the aliens are genetic creations of the engineers that blend cellular data from some plant on that planet that gives off little black spores like we see in the previews with possibly their own blood or what have you, that would indeed be a letdown. I was hoping to learn a lot more.

Such as:

Are the aliens more sentient than we might think?
Do the engineers worship the aliens?
Do the engineers see the aliens as a sort of weapon that they created? Did they ever use it?
What is the deal with creating humans? Or did they? Maybe they tried to destroy humans but the human DNA repelled the alien DNA. If you watch that little opening segment in Prometheus closely I think there could be some varying interpretations of what exactly is happening.
If the engineers are responsible for humanity, did they do this solely to destroy them all once they reached a point in their evolution? Such as raising cattle to be slaughtered.
Are the engineers still alive? If not, what happened to them all?
Why are the engineers so malevolent?

and on and on.

I remember early on in production photos surfaced of what looked like a dozen or so Engineers lying on an outdoor staircase, apparently slaughtered. So I'm expecting they play an important role in this narrative and won't simply be brushed aside.

Oh, that makes sense, since they are colonists.

Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?

Yeah, that could very well be the case. I'm hoping for the best.

That's more reason to hope, I guess.

Does it say that somewhere? I can't make it out.

If it is the ship Shaw left on, I'm guessing they either crash landed (maybe an 'Alien' tagged along) or they made it, but things have changed over the however many years. Maybe the Aliens took over the Engineer's planet.

This looks like every other Alien movie. Not excited.
