Sculpting as a career

Hello to all the wonderful, talented sculptors on here,

I am in my first year of college with an undeclared major, and I've always loved to illustrate comic book characters. After seeing the beautiful WIPs and creations on here, I feel inspired to start sculpting myself. I do have artistic ability and a steady hand, but have never sculpted before. But before I commit to sculpting as a concentration, I was wondering about the career path ahead. How is the job market for sculptors? Can someone explain a possible path I am looking ahead of me? Is a career in sculpting a profitable one? Thanks in advance guys.

looks to be competitive, but if your work shines through to people, I am sure you will have no problem.

Hey 10seki,

Dude... nice name! Just do it ... very therapeutic even if you don't consider it as a career.

Yep! Didn't even realize the reference to your username with anything Korean till I was browsing through my contacts on my phone and had one of my buddies setup under that name! Though I had it spelled out in english.

Anyhow, sculpting is great man! Maybe you should look into Zbrush? Since you have some background in drawing? Great combination of the two... haven't tried it though.

Good luck~
