Makes total sense since BvS appears to have incorporated the 'Death in the Family' storyline, or something similar to it, into the backstory.

That, and it means it'd be a crime drama. I maintain the best thing about the Dark Knight, is that if you remove Batman and make him just a detective, and make the Joker a regular outlaw mobster, that movie is still an excellent crime drama. That to me is when Batman and his world are at their best. I love the over the top Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Killer Croc etc. etc. But Batman is top of the heap when he's dealing with street level crime and street level villains that work with and for the mob. Its why Long Halloween was so damn good.
