Sorta new, looking for molding advice.

All my life I've been fascinated with clay. Had phases here and there, never really made anything too noteworthy, but now I have the sudden passion that I want to create characters from video games that will never get one made from them.

I've been learning things since last year. I discovered the process of molding by this website http://blog.polytek.com/2014/01/09/t...of-small-bust/

Major question is that the character I'm working on has a cape/mantle that flows slightly behind them. How would I go about molding this? Do I have do the mantle separate? It's just that most of the molds I've seen are usually a solid piece, and it seems like this would add an entire other pocket of space in the mold. Should it be a one or two piece mold?
I'm nowhere near the molding process yet but I'm just thinking forward about how exactly I would do this.

Show me a picture of the sculpt and the cape.
Most likely you will have to make a separate mold for the cape..

Not enough progress as of now to show anything. But if I were to mold a thin piece like the cap, is the material usually flexible enough to bend?

you can get resins that are more flexible but personally i would use a very rigid resin to keep the capes shape.
